Children of Northern West Bank Camps: The way of managing the displaced file is a major disappointment, and we demand the formation of a high committee in this regard
SadaNews - The children of the northern camps have stated that the camps in the northern West Bank are being uprooted, their residents are forcibly displaced, homes are being demolished, neighborhoods are being erased, and families are being pushed into displacement and homelessness, in a scene that recalls the chapters of the Nakba, but this time in front of everyone’s eyes amid a heavy and painful official silence. The children of the northern camps added in a statement today; that what is happening is not a transient security event, nor a temporary operation, but rather a clear project to break the camps, break the human spirit, undermine the refugee environment, and end the national and social status that the camps represent. The greatest danger lies not only in the aggression but in the absence of a stance, weakened presence, and leaving the people to face their fate of displacement, poverty, and homelessness alone. The statement continued, "The way the displaced file has been managed up to this moment represents a real disappointment and significant shortcoming, and we are disappointed in you because you are the proactive hand and the beloved nurturer, and because it is your duty to protect the people, their dignity, and their future; it is unacceptable to merely observe or provide data or limited aid while the camps are emptied and their residents are displaced." It was emphasized that the camps have never been a burden on anyone; they have always been a symbol of sacrifice, a reservoir of struggle, and a keeper of identity, and the hand and thought that established the Palestine Liberation Organization. It stressed that it is unacceptable to leave the camp residents alone today during the hardest moment they are going through. The children of the northern camps demanded in their statement a clear political and national stance regarding what is happening in the northern West Bank camps and to declare the displaced file as an urgent national issue. They also called for the formation of a high national committee to manage the displacement file, and to provide real financial support that preserves the dignity of the displaced families, in addition to setting a clear and public plan for the return of residents to the camps and rejecting the transformation of displacement into a permanent reality. The statement called for pressure by all local and international means to end the displacement situation and return its residents, and for the Department of Refugee Affairs to fully assume its responsibilities towards refugees both in the homeland and in exile. It pointed out that the most dangerous thing we are experiencing today is not just the destruction of homes, but the breaking of the human spirit, weakening of belonging, striking at the idea of the camp, and transforming the refugee into mere displaced person without a cause.
