Inspection Operations Reveal Dozens of Violations at the Largest Migrant Detention Camp in America

SadaNews - A recent inspection uncovered 49 violations of detention standards at the largest migrant detention camp in the United States, located in El Paso, Texas, which has faced criticism from immigrant rights activists opposing the campaign led by President Donald Trump.

The Office of Detention Oversight of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a three-day inspection in February, commissioned by Congress; its report was released this week.

The report detailed 49 violations at the facility, which costs $1.2 billion and is named "Camp East Montana." The report defined a "violation" as "any breach of detention standards or operational policies or procedures."

It noted that there are 22 violations related to "use of force and restraint methods," 11 related to "facility security and monitoring," and five violations related to "medical care."

The Trump administration has adopted a strict policy against immigration, prompting criticism from rights groups and others who believe it violates due process and freedom of expression.

Human rights advocacy groups argue that this campaign has created an unsafe environment for minorities and raised concerns about racial discrimination.

Trump describes the government's actions as an effort to enhance national security and reduce illegal immigration. According to the administration, at least 14 migrants have died while in custody of Immigration since January 2026 until late March. This follows a record of 31 deaths last year, the highest in two decades.
