Britain Announces International Meeting and Military Coordination to Secure the Strait of Hormuz
SadaNews - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will host an international meeting this week, bringing together more than 30 countries to discuss ways to restore and ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Starmer stated that Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will host the meeting, which is part of a unified effort to enhance maritime security in the Gulf, noting that his country has successfully gathered 35 nations around a declaration of intent in this regard.
He added, during a briefing at Downing Street, that military planners will hold a meeting following the gathering to discuss how to "mobilize capabilities and make the strait safe and accessible after the fighting ends."
He emphasized that this mission "will not be easy," pointing out that he has consulted with leaders in the shipping, finance, insurance, and energy sectors, who stressed that the main challenge lies in ensuring safe passage through this vital corridor.
This move comes amid rising tensions and disruptions in navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil transit routes.
