Arrival of 3500 Marines in the Middle East
SadaNews - The U.S. Central Command announced the arrival of the U.S. warship "USS Tripoli" in the Middle East, carrying approximately 3500 sailors and Marines, in a move that strengthens the U.S. military presence in the region.
The Central Command stated in a post on the "X" platform that the ship arrived in its area of responsibility on March 27, at a time when the U.S. Department of Defense is assessing military options amid escalating tensions with Iran.
Earlier this month, CNN reported that the Pentagon plans to deploy an expeditionary unit of Marines to the region.
These units are traditionally used for missions that include large-scale evacuation operations and amphibious operations that require the transportation of forces from ships to shore, including landings and assaults, as well as carrying out ground and air combat missions, some of which are trained for special operations.
An informed source told the U.S. network that the presence of this unit provides U.S. military leaders with additional options to deal with a wide range of potential scenarios.
