The Organization of Islamic Cooperation Welcomes the Special Rapporteur's Report on Human Rights and Emphasizes the Seriousness of Its Findings, Calling for the Implementation of Recommendations
SadaNews - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed the report issued by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, Ms. Francesca Albanese, titled "Torture and Genocide".
The General Secretariat pointed to the seriousness of the report's findings, which legally document the use of systematic, deliberate, and collective torture by the Israeli occupation as part of the ongoing crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, particularly Palestinian prisoners in the occupation's jails. This includes policies of dehumanization, physical torture, psychological terror, sexual violence and rape, collective punishment, starvation, as well as crimes of forced displacement, siege, destruction of infrastructure, and obstruction of humanitarian and food assistance, among other actions and practices that constitute war crimes and genocide under international criminal law.
The General Secretariat of the organization reiterated its support for the important role played by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, calling on the international community to fulfill its legal, political, and moral responsibilities to implement the report's recommendations, work towards dismantling the apartheid system, end colonial occupation, put an end to all ongoing crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, criminalize them, and ensure accountability and an end to impunity.
