Qatar on Targeting of Pars: Irresponsible Behavior
SadaNews - The State of Qatar condemned the targeting, today Wednesday, of the Pars gas field in Iran, the largest field in the world.
The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, emphasized that the Israeli targeting of facilities related to the South Pars gas field in Iran, which represents an extension of the North Gas Field in Qatar, is a dangerous and irresponsible step, amid the current military escalation in the region.
He added via X that targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, to the peoples of the region, and to the environment there.
He also stressed the importance of avoiding targeting vital facilities.
He called on all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, and work towards de-escalation to preserve the security and stability of the region.
This came after the "Tasnim" Iranian agency confirmed that the Pars field was subjected to an attack, noting that strong explosions were heard following the targeting of gas facilities at the South Pars field.
The channel also quoted Ehsan Jahaniyan, deputy governor of Bushehr where the facilities are located in southern Iran, stating that part of the gas facilities in the South Pars economic energy zone in Asaluyeh was bombarded with projectiles.
He pointed out that firefighting teams are working to contain the fire that has erupted at the site.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official clarified that the attack on the gas facility in Bushehr was coordinated with the U.S., noting that the targeting of the gas facility in Bushehr aims to deepen Iran's losses.
The Largest Globally
It is worth noting that the South Pars field, located in the Gulf, is one of the largest natural gas fields in the world, shared by Iran and Qatar, where it is known on the Qatari side as the North Field.
The field represents a fundamental pillar for gas production in Iran and secures a large portion of its domestic needs, in addition to its vital role in supporting energy exports, according to "Ctvnews".
Any targeting of the field's facilities is considered a serious development, given its potential impact on global energy supplies and gas prices, amid the sensitivity of the region that contains one of the world's most important energy corridors.
