Report: Trump Informed His Team He Currently Does Not Wish to Negotiate with Iran
SadaNews - U.S. network "CNN" reported that White House officials said President Donald Trump informed his team that he currently does not wish to negotiate with Iran.
Two U.S. officials told "CNN" that "Iranian officials have directly contacted U.S. President's Middle East envoy, Steve Wheatcroft, in recent days in an attempt to reopen a diplomatic channel."
The website "Axios" reported, citing three informed sources, that Wheatcroft intends to provide a briefing to a small group of bipartisan senators regarding the war on Iran in a closed session after noon on Tuesday.
"Axios" added that Republican Senator Joni Ernst, chair of the subcommittee on emerging threats and capabilities of the Senate Armed Services Committee, arranged for the session.
In related context, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Monday that his last contact with Wheatcroft was before the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.
Araghchi wrote on "X": "My last contact with Mr. Wheatcroft was before the decision of the entity he works for to end diplomacy by launching a military attack on Iran."
The "Dropsite News" platform had previously reported that Wheatcroft sent messages to Araghchi, citing Iranian officials saying that Araghchi was ignoring Wheatcroft's messages.
