International Convoy Carrying 20 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Cuba

SadaNews - An international convoy carrying "more than 20 tons" of aid, medicines, and solar panels is expected to arrive in Cuba on March 21 to alleviate the severe crisis affecting the communist island.

Cuba, with a population of 9.6 million, is experiencing a choking crisis in its economy and another in energy that has worsened since the ousting of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a U.S. military operation in January, leading Caracas to suddenly halt fuel supplies to Havana, which had been occurring for about 25 years.

The organizers of this convoy, formed at the initiative of an international coalition of movements, unions, deputies, humanitarian organizations, and public figures under the name "Nuestra América," announced that they will hold a special event upon its arrival on the shores of Havana.

A statement indicated that "more than 20 tons of food, medicines, solar equipment, and humanitarian supplies will arrive in Havana by ship and via an air cargo flight, along with delegations of volunteers from three continents."

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg expressed her support for the initiative without revealing whether she would join the convoy on its journey to Cuba.

Thunberg had previously stated in a statement for "Nuestra América" that "international solidarity is the only force strong enough to confront imperial figures like (U.S. President Donald) Trump and (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."
