Venezuelan President Asks Trump to Lift U.S. Sanctions
SadaNews - Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez requested U.S. President Donald Trump to lift the "sanctions that affect the peoples" during a reception in Caracas for a delegation of Colombian ministers on Friday night to Saturday.
Rodríguez stated, after canceling her trip scheduled for Thursday to Colombia for security reasons, that "the unilateral coercive measures against the people of Venezuela affect the peoples of Latin America." She added, "They also affect the economies of Colombia and Venezuela, and our peoples."
The United States imposed an oil embargo and sanctions on Venezuela in 2019 following the presidential elections in which President Nicolás Maduro ran in 2018, which were boycotted by the opposition.
After Maduro's arrest in January, Washington eased the sanctions, while several analysts believe that they could be completely lifted in the near future.
