Trump Threatens Cuba After Completing War with Iran
SadaNews - President Donald Trump pledged that Cuba will be next after completing the ongoing military operations in Iran.
During an event at the White House with the Inter Miami soccer team and global star Lionel Messi, Trump addressed the war with Iran, stating that "people are happy with what’s happening," reaffirming that the Iranian government will not be the last to collapse in confrontations with the United States. He added that he wants to finish the war in Iran first, "but returning to Cuba (...) will be just a matter of time." He reiterated, "Cuba will fall too," after "we cut off all the oil, all the money; we cut off everything coming from Venezuela, which was the sole source."
He hinted that an agreement with Cuba might be imminent.
In reference to one of the owners of "Inter Miami" being of Cuban descent, Trump said, "You will return there," adding, "It will be a great day, right?".
Without going into details, Trump said, "We will celebrate that privately. I just want to wait two weeks. And I want him to wait two weeks too, but I think we will meet soon to celebrate what is happening in Cuba." He further spoke about the island's government: "They are very eager to sign a deal. You have no idea how much they want it."
He also referred to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who wants to work on the Cuba file, but is cautious about doing so amid the war with Iran. Trump said, "The next file will be - we want to pay special attention to this matter - Cuba. It’s waiting. But he says: Let’s finish this file first. We can get them all done at the same time; but bad things happen. If you watch nations over the years, you will find that if they are all done very quickly, bad things happen."
When asked whether the United States is playing a role in the fall of the Cuban government, he hinted that the deterioration of the situation on the island is partially due to U.S. pressures. He said, "Well, this is due to my intervention, the intervention that is happening now. It is clear that but for that they wouldn’t have this problem. We cut off all the oil, all the money (...) everything coming from Venezuela, which was the sole source." He also stated, "After 50 years, this is a culmination of efforts. Venezuela is achieving remarkable success," adding that acting interim president Delcy Rodríguez "is doing a great job. The relationship with them is excellent" after American special forces conducted a swift military operation in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, leading to the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro, bringing him into custody and then to court in New York.
Trump continues to send messages to the Iranian interior and is awaiting a pivotal move that represents a turning point in the war, which he now estimates will last from 4 to 5 weeks with the assassination of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, with the possibility that the conflict may extend longer. Thus, the American president reiterated his previous statements regarding the fall of the Cuban regime.
The stringent American blockade imposed by the Trump administration has deprived large parts of Cuba of electricity. The Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines wrote on the "X" platform that the electricity system is operating "with limited capacity, prioritizing essential services, especially health and water supply."
State media reported that two power generation plants are out of service due to a lack of oil. Cuba has long suffered from an aging electricity grid and sporadic fuel supplies, but the crisis has worsened in recent months. Main oil shipments from Venezuela halted after Maduro's fall. Later, Trump warned that he would impose tariffs on any country that sells or supplies Cuba with oil.
