Report: Iran War May Last Until September
SadaNews - While the United States and Israel say their war against Iran, which began on Saturday, will last for weeks, reports suggest that the conflict may extend for several months.
The "Politico" website revealed that the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) expects the conflict with Iran to last more than 100 days, possibly extending into September, and is mobilizing more military intelligence support for its joint operations with Israel.
According to a notice obtained by the American newspaper, the U.S. Central Command has requested the Pentagon to send more military intelligence officers to its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, to support air operations for at least 100 days, and possibly until September.
This is reportedly the first known instance in which the administration has requested additional intelligence reinforcement for the Iran war, indicating that the Pentagon has already begun allocating funding for operations that may extend beyond the initial four-week timeline set by President Donald Trump for the war.
The urgency in adding personnel and resources to support efforts typically organized well in advance of any U.S. military action indicates that the Trump team did not anticipate the wide-ranging repercussions of the war launched by the United States alongside Israel on Saturday.
Washington, in coordination with Israel, launched a broad-based military operation targeting Iranian military infrastructure, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials on its first day.
The Pentagon is trying to send more air defense systems to the region, especially systems to counter small and inexpensive drones, according to an American official.
Washington is using missiles costing millions of dollars to take down cheap Iranian drones, while an official noted that the drone counter-systems owned by Washington have not yet been tested in combat.
