Concerns in Israel over a "Quick Agreement" between Washington and Tehran
SadaNews - Maariv newspaper has reported that there are fears in Israel that U.S. President Donald Trump may end the confrontation with Iran through a superficial and quick agreement similar to what happened with the Houthis.
The newspaper conveyed concerns from Israeli security circles that the agreement could be poor and fail to address Iran's ballistic missile program and Tehran's proxies, which could grant the Iranian regime financial resources to enhance its capabilities.
The newspaper states that the worst-case scenario would be a partial agreement that frees up funds for the Iranian regime and fortifies it, while the worst scenario would be a limited American strike followed by a poor deal that leaves Israel exposed to Iranian retaliatory missile strikes.
The newspaper concluded that the best scenario from Tel Aviv's perspective is a broad American military campaign that includes strikes on nuclear and missile facilities, and possibly the overthrow of the regime.
Meanwhile, a relatively acceptable scenario in Tel Aviv is the continuation of the status quo through international pressure, sanctions, and a blockade until the regime collapses internally.
Washington and Tehran have concluded two rounds of talks aiming to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program to replace the deal from which Trump withdrew during his first term.
In addition to repeatedly demanding that Iran stop uranium enrichment, the United States has also sought to include its ballistic missile program and its support for armed groups in the region on the negotiation table, which Tehran has rejected.
Trump has sent a massive military force to the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers, more than 12 warships, in addition to a large number of fighter jets and other assets.
Trump continues to threaten to strike Iran if negotiations fail to reach a new agreement, with talks with Tehran scheduled to resume on Thursday.
