Russia denies European accusations of poisoning opposition figure Navalny in prison
SadaNews - On Monday, the Kremlin rejected an investigation conducted by five European countries, which concluded that Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny was poisoned in a Siberian prison two years ago, describing it as "baseless".
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters during his daily phone press conference, "Of course, we do not accept such accusations. We disagree with them. We consider them biased and groundless."
Navalny's mother called for "justice" for her son on the second anniversary of his death, after an investigation by five European countries concluded that he was poisoned.
Lyudmila Navalnaya told reporters near her son’s grave in Moscow, "This conclusion confirms what we have known from the beginning. We knew that my son did not simply die in prison; he was assassinated."
She added, "Two years have passed, and we know the substance he was poisoned with. I think it will take some time, and we will ultimately know who did it."
She confirmed, "Of course, we want this to happen in our country and for justice to prevail."
Lyudmila Navalnaya stated, "I have previously said that those who issued that order are known to the whole world, and I say it again. We want to identify everyone who participated" in the operation.
Dozens of people gathered in Moscow in front of Alexei Navalny’s grave, known for opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin and exposing corruption circles in his country. He died in prison on February 16, 2024, at the age of 47, under circumstances that remain unclear.
Five European countries, namely the UK, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, accused Russia on Saturday of poisoning him by using a "rare toxic substance" based on investigations and analyses they conducted.
