Sources: Indonesia Plans to Send Troops to Gaza by June
SadaNews - Reuters reported that an Indonesian military spokesperson stated that the country is preparing to deploy 8,000 soldiers in Gaza by June.
He stated that the timeline for the deployment of Indonesian forces in the Gaza Strip will be subject to the country’s decision.
This will make Indonesia the first country to take this step as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States late last year.
The Chief of Staff of the Army, General Andika Perkasa, previously talked about the commencement of training for the soldiers, focusing on medical and engineering tasks in the sector.
Indonesia joined the peace council established by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which was announced last month.
The council has a mandate from the United Nations Security Council to create an international stabilization force that will help secure the border areas in Gaza and ensure the demilitarization of the territory, including the disarmament of Hamas.
The council, which is scheduled to hold its first meeting in Washington on February 19, will also oversee a new Palestinian technocratic government in Gaza and post-war reconstruction.
