Reza Pahlavi Calls on Trump for "Urgent" Intervention in Iran
SadaNews - The son of the deposed Iranian Shah, Reza Pahlavi, has once again called on U.S. President Donald Trump for "urgent" military intervention in Iran, and reiterated his proposal to lead a "transitional phase" in the country, in a statement to the U.S. channel "Fox News" on Sunday.
Pahlavi, the exiled opposition figure residing in the United States who has repeatedly called for mobilization against the regime in Tehran in recent days, said, "I hope that the president (Trump) realizes how much an urgent intervention can save lives and help us put an end to this unwanted regime."
He added that "the primary demand of the Iranians, both inside the country and abroad, is help," clarifying that "the intervention is a humanitarian one aimed at saving lives that will continue to be lost unless that happens."
The U.S. president has hinted at military intervention in Iran but has also called for a negotiated solution since a crackdown on protests in January resulted in thousands of deaths, according to human rights organizations.
On Friday, Trump announced that he had ordered a second aircraft carrier to be deployed in the Middle East, noting that it would arrive "very soon," and stated that regime change in Iran "is the best thing that could happen."
On Sunday, Pahlavi said that if he leads Iran into a transitional phase, he will "stimulate the democratic and secular opposition and unify its ranks, whether they support a constitutional monarchy or a republic, in order to properly discuss these issues, and allow the majority of Iranians to decide the future of Iran in a fully transparent democratic process under international supervision."
