Trump Calls on Hamas to Completely and Immediately Disarm
SadaNews - On Sunday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump called on the Hamas movement to disarm "completely and immediately."
Trump stated in a post on his social media platform that "the member states of the 'Peace Council' have pledged more than $5 billion for humanitarian efforts in Gaza and reconstruction."
He added that "members of the Peace Council have allocated thousands of individuals to the international stabilization force and local police in Gaza."
He emphasized that "Hamas must fulfill its commitment and disarm immediately and completely."
Last Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed on to join what is called the "Peace Council" during his meeting with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio before his meeting with Trump at the White House.
On January 15th, President Donald Trump announced the establishment of the "Peace Council," part of a plan he proposed for the Gaza Strip, which was adopted by the United Nations Security Council in its resolution number 2803 issued in November 2025.
Although the "Peace Council" emerged from the ruins of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip with U.S. support, its charter does not mention the Palestinian territory, where approximately 2.4 million people live, including 1.5 million displaced individuals, who are facing catastrophic conditions.
The charter describes the council as a "permanent international organization to promote peace and good governance in conflict areas," with extensive powers granted to Trump for life, including veto power and member appointments, which observers have interpreted as a maneuver to bypass the United Nations.
The charter criticizes the United Nations, emphasizing the need for "a more flexible and effective international body to build peace," and that "lasting peace requires the courage to abandon organizations that have repeatedly failed."
The "National Committee for the Administration of Gaza" is a non-political body responsible for managing the daily civil affairs of the sector, consisting of 11 Palestinian figures, in addition to its head, Ali Shaath. The committee began its work in mid-January from the Egyptian capital Cairo, while it has not yet started from the Gaza Strip.
This committee is one of four structures included in the transitional phase in Gaza, along with the "Peace Council," the "Executive Council of Gaza," and the "International Stabilization Force," according to Trump's plan regarding the sector.
Gaza, where around 2.4 million Palestinians live, suffers catastrophic repercussions due to a genocidal war launched by Israel on the sector with U.S. support since October 7, 2023, which lasted for two years.
During the war, Israel killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and injured over 171,000, most of whom were children and women, destroying 90% of the civilian infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at around $70 billion.
