Canada: 10 People Killed in a School Shooting
SadaNews - Canadian authorities reported that a shooting incident at a school in British Columbia resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including the suspected shooter. Additionally, two more individuals were found dead at a residence believed to be connected to the incident.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police stated that over 25 people sustained injuries, with two in critical condition, following the shooting that occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
The police added in a statement that "as part of the initial response to the shooting, officers entered the school to identify the source of the threat. During the search, officers discovered several victims. They also found an individual believed to be the shooter dead from what appears to be self-inflicted wounds."
The police requested that residents of Tumbler Ridge, a town with a population of about 2,400, remain indoors as additional police resources from neighboring areas were deployed to the location.
The Peace River South School District announced a temporary closure, securing both the secondary and elementary schools in the town as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.
Tumbler Ridge is located more than 1,000 kilometers north of Vancouver, near the border with Alberta.
It is worth noting that school shootings are rare in Canada.
