Iran: Nuclear Talks Allowed Us to Gauge the "Seriousness" of America
SadaNews - Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated on Tuesday that last week's nuclear talks with the United States enabled Tehran to gauge Washington's seriousness and showed that there is enough understanding to continue the diplomatic path.
American and Iranian diplomats held talks through Omani intermediaries in the Sultanate last week in an attempt to revive diplomacy, following President Donald Trump's deployment of naval reinforcements to the region, which raised fears of new military action.
Baqaei said, "The Muscat meeting was not lengthy. From our perspective, its goal was to assess the seriousness of the other party and how to continue this path."
He added, "After the talks, we felt there was understanding and agreement to continue the diplomatic process."
He noted that the visit of Ali Larijani, advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, to Oman today was pre-scheduled to follow up on regional consultations, and that Larijani would later head to Qatar.
Regarding the anticipated visit of the Israeli Prime Minister to Washington tomorrow, Baqaei stated that the United States should "act independently away from external pressures, especially those from Israel that disregard the interests of the region and even the interests of the United States."
