Trump: The Chinese President Will Visit the United States Near the 'End of the Year'
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview that he will host his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the White House near the "end of the year" to discuss various issues, most notably trade matters.
Trump stated in this interview conducted with NBC on Wednesday and fully aired on Sunday, "(Xi) will come to the White House near the end of the year (...) These two countries (the United States and China) are the strongest in the world and we have a very good relationship." He confirmed that he will visit China in April.
Amidst a confrontation between Washington and Beijing over tariffs, the U.S. president emphasized that he and his Chinese counterpart regularly exchange views on economic and trade issues.
He said in the interview: "As you know, it is important for me to have a good relationship with him and for him to have a good relationship with me.".
He added that China "pays hefty tariffs. They weren't doing that in the past. I imposed tariffs on China (...) Our country has collected hundreds of billions of dollars from tariffs."
