Trump Hints at Third Term and Distances Himself from Supporting Vance or Rubio

SadaNews - It seems that U.S. President Donald Trump is once again hinting at the idea of running for a "non-constitutional" third presidential term.

Trump had raised this idea last year but later abandoned it.

However, when asked during an interview with NBC News whether he sees "any scenario" where he remains president when the next president's term begins in January 2029, Trump said, "I don't know. That would be interesting. "

On another note, the U.S. president declined to take a position in the ongoing debate about whether his Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be his successor in the Republican campaign for the 2028 presidential election.

Vance, a former Republican senator from Ohio, said he would talk to Trump about the possibility of running after the midterm elections in November.

There is also speculation among sources familiar with developments within the Republican Party that Rubio, a former senator from Florida who tried to run for the presidency in the Republican Party in 2016 and lost to Trump, may seek to run.

Rubio has not closed the door on a 2028 campaign but praised Vance as a potentially strong candidate.

Trump said he would "lean toward" supporting a successor when asked about Vance and Rubio during an interview with NBC News, but he mentioned he does not want to delve into the matter right now.

Trump added, "We have three years. I do not want to, you know, I have two great people. I do not want to argue with them, or I do not want to use the word fight. It wouldn’t be a fight. But look, JD is great, and Marco is great."

Trump often speaks about the necessity of both men running together on a single ballot.

The 2028 election will witness a widely open race on both the Republican and Democratic sides, and strong competition is expected.

In a potential reference to Rubio, Trump said about them: "I would say one is a bit more diplomatic than the other," while describing them as two men with very high intelligence.

Trump said, "I think there is a difference in style. You can see the style for yourself. But they both have high capabilities. The union between JD and Marco would be hard to defeat, I believe. But no one knows what will happen in politics, right?".
