Corruption Crimes Court Issues Sentences of Imprisonment, Seizure, and Fines in the Case of the General Authority for Crossings and Borders
SadaNews: The Corruption Crimes Court issued its ruling in the criminal case related to the file of the General Authority for Crossings and Borders, based on the evidence and testimonies presented by the public prosecutor, and after completing the trial procedures in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The court sentenced the defendant (N.M) to fifteen (15) years in prison, and the defendant (R.M) to seven (7) years in prison for the charges against them.
The court also ordered the defendant (N.M) to return the amounts mentioned in the indictment, totaling 6,137,225 shekels, 4,499,030 US dollars, 2,923,717 Jordanian dinars, and 6,974 euros. Additionally, the court imposed a financial fine on both convicted individuals equal to the amounts they were ordered to return, and decided to seize the movable and immovable assets acquired from the crime, which are held and confiscated under the case, as well as the properties belonging to the convicted individuals located within Palestine and in both the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, denying them the right to dispose of them, in accordance with legal procedures.
The ruling was issued by a panel of judges headed by Judge Dr. Ramez Musleh, and the membership of Judges Najat Al-Breiki and Fatoum Katami.
The public prosecutor charged the defendant (N.M) with committing acts of corruption punishable under the Anti-Corruption Law No. (1) of 2005 and its amendments, which involved unlawful gains, trading in influence, abuse of power and investment in position, and obtaining an unlawful personal benefit according to the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Law and the Penal Code, in addition to the crime of money laundering for the defendants (N.M) and (R.M) in accordance with the legal descriptions included in the decision and indictment issued by the public prosecutor.
The public prosecutor asserts that, within its legal jurisdiction, it has taken precautionary measures during the proceedings that included the precautionary seizure of movable and immovable assets, preserving public funds and ensuring the effective enforcement of the ruling.
The public prosecutor also emphasizes that it will proceed, without delay, to take all necessary legal actions to implement and enforce the ruling, and to pursue all its legal consequences, achieving both general and specific deterrence and establishing the principle of accountability.
