Iran Classifies European Armies as "Terrorist" Organizations
SadaNews - The Iranian Parliament Speaker announced on Sunday the classification of European armies as "terrorist" organizations in response to the European Union's classification of the Revolutionary Guard.
Following the European Union's designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the decision in the strongest terms, describing it as "illegal, unjustified, and deceptive."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement on Thursday that "the illegal and unjustified designation by the EU foreign ministers, based on unfounded accusations against Iran and labeling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, is a measure targeting the entire Iranian people," according to the "Mehr" agency.
It also viewed the labeling of a sovereign and official institution as "terrorist" as a dangerous precedent, a blatant violation of the principle of the rule of law in international relations, and a clear disregard for the fundamental principles of international law, including the principle of respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in their internal affairs, according to the statement.
This came after the European Union approved, during a meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers in Brussels earlier on Thursday, sanctions against Iranian officials, including the Minister of Interior, Iskander Moemen, regarding the suppression of protests, while the Union announced the classification of the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.
