Trump threatens to impose tariffs on any country selling oil to Cuba, will reveal his nominee for the Federal Reserve
SadaNews Economy - US President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Thursday night, imposing tariffs on any goods coming from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba, in a move that exerts pressure on Mexico.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this week that her government has temporarily halted oil shipments to Cuba at least, but affirmed that it is a "sovereign decision" made without US pressure.
Trump is pressuring Mexico to distance itself from the Cuban government and increasingly isolate the island, which is already under strict US economic sanctions.
On another note, the US president said he would reveal his nominee for the Federal Reserve chair today (Friday), succeeding Jerome Powell.
Trump stated at the Kennedy Center, "I will reveal the Chairman of the Federal Reserve on Friday morning."
