Reports: Trump is Considering Bombing Iran to Support New Protests

SadaNews - Reuters reported from multiple sources that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering options against Iran that include targeted strikes on security forces and leaders to support protesters and initiate new demonstrations.

Two U.S. sources familiar with the discussions stated that Trump wants to create conditions for a "regime change" after the authorities suppressed a wave of protests across the country earlier this month, resulting in thousands of deaths.

CNN reported on Thursday that President Trump is considering launching a new extensive strike against Iran amid the lack of progress in nuclear talks.

CNN quoted sources saying that "the options currently being considered by Trump include airstrikes targeting Iranian leaders and security officials believed to be responsible for the killings in the country."

The sources added that "U.S. strikes on Iran could include Iranian nuclear sites and government institutions."

The sources confirmed that Trump "has not made a final decision on how to proceed, but believes that his military options regarding Iran have expanded."

CNN's report emphasized that "no serious direct negotiations have taken place between Washington and Tehran as Trump intensifies his threats of military action in recent days."

According to CNN, Washington "has conditioned a meeting with Iranian officials on a permanent halt to uranium enrichment and new restrictions on the ballistic missile program."

The report noted that the main points of contention were Washington's demand for Tehran to agree to limit the range of its ballistic missiles.
