Factions in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen Threaten Support for Iran if US Attack Occurs
SadaNews: The possibility of a US military attack on Iran has raised widespread concerns in the region, as pro-Iran factions in Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen have moved to announce their readiness to support Tehran, hinting at expanding the war if confrontation erupts. These warnings came from the Lebanese "Hezbollah," Iraq's "Al-Nujaba" movement, and the Houthis in Yemen, following statements from US President Donald Trump threatening to target Iran.
Trump confirmed in a speech on Wednesday that a "massive fleet" is heading toward Iran, warning Tehran of facing a "much worse attack" if it does not cooperate. He called for swift negotiations aimed at a "fair and equitable agreement for all," emphasizing that the agreement will not include any nuclear weapons. In response, Iran issued a stern warning, asserting that its "finger is on the trigger" and that any military action will be met with direct targeting of Israel.
For his part, Nawaaf al-Moussawi, the official in charge of resources and borders in "Hezbollah," stated that the party would address the situation when it arises, referring to the possibility of intervention if Iran is subject to a US attack. Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of Iraq's Al-Nujaba movement, Akram al-Kaabi, confirmed that the Iraqi people will not stand idly by while their friends, who have stood with them against terrorism and extremism, are attacked. In Yemen, a military source in Sanaa told the Iranian news agency "IRNA" that the Houthis will not allow any American warships or aircraft carriers to approach the Red and Arabian Seas, considering it a direct threat to Yemen.
The Iraqi "Hezbollah Brigades" also called for preparations for a "full-scale war" in support of Iran, noting that Tehran has stood for over four decades alongside the oppressed and the issues of the nation without sectarian or ethnic discrimination. These positions come amid ongoing US escalation, with Iran viewing Washington as using sanctions, pressures, and inciting unrest as pretexts for external intervention and seeking regime change.
The American newspaper "The New York Times" revealed that the US military has sent additional "Patriot" and "THAAD" air defense systems to the Middle East to protect its forces from Iranian missiles in the event of a confrontation. American media also reported the arrival of the aircraft carrier "Lincoln" and three accompanying destroyers in the Indian Ocean, on their way to the US Central Command's operational area in the Gulf of Oman.
In response, Ali Shamkhani, adviser to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, announced that his country would retaliate against any attack targeting it, even if it were limited, with an unprecedented comprehensive response. He clarified in a message posted on his "X" account in multiple languages that any military action will be considered the beginning of a war and will be met with targeting the heart of Tel Aviv and all those who support the aggressor.
These developments recall events from June 2025, when Israel, with US support, launched a 12-day attack on military, nuclear, and civilian sites in Iran, which included the assassination of leaders and scientists. Iran retaliated by targeting Israeli military and intelligence sites with missiles and drones. On June 22, the United States attacked Iranian nuclear facilities, leading Iran to bomb the US "Al-Udeid" base in Qatar, before Washington announced on June 24 a ceasefire between Tel Aviv and Tehran.
