Attack with Unknown Substance Interrupts Speech of U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (Video)

SadaNews: The U.S. police arrested a man who sprayed an unknown substance on Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a meeting in Minneapolis, in an incident that shocked attendees amidst rising tensions over federal immigration policies.

Video footage from the scene showed the moment the man was thrown to the ground by attendees and security personnel, amid audience chants, while one person was heard saying, "Oh my God, he sprayed something on her."

Omar had called, just seconds before the attack, for the abolition of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and demanded the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen or face impeachment, amid increasing criticism following the shooting of two individuals by federal agents during protests against deportation in Minneapolis this month.

The Minneapolis police stated that officers saw the man using a syringe to spray an unknown liquid towards Omar, before they immediately arrested him and charged him with third-degree assault.

The suspect was identified as Anthony Kazmierchak (55 years old), while forensic teams began examining the substance used, which was described as having a strong vinegar-like odor.

Despite the incident, Ilhan Omar continued the meeting for an additional 25 minutes, affirming that she would not be intimidated.

She stated after leaving the venue that she felt a bit confused but was not injured, and would undergo precautionary medical tests.

Later, she wrote on the "X" platform: "I’m okay. I’m a survivor, and this little instigator will not deter me from doing my job."

This incident comes amid a sharp political escalation, as U.S. President Donald Trump has consistently criticized Omar in recent months.

He had attacked her during a campaign rally in Iowa, saying his administration "will only allow immigrants who love this country to enter," adding, "not like Ilhan Omar," which was met with jeers from the crowd.

Omar is a U.S. citizen who fled with her family from Somalia at the age of eight due to the civil war.
