Central Election Commission: Voter Registration Exceeds One and a Half Million
SadaNews - Fred Tahmallah, the spokesperson for the Central Election Commission, stated this morning, Friday, that the number of registered voters has exceeded one and a half million, with the electronic and field registration processes ongoing, both of which will close at 2 PM tomorrow, Saturday.
Tahmallah explained that the third day of the field registration process, yesterday, Thursday, saw (10,599) new citizens registered in the voter registry, while (4,040) citizens changed their polling places and updated their voting registration information.
He noted that (47,092) citizens inquired about polling centers through the Commission's website.
He confirmed that field registration teams continue their work today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, from 9 AM until 2 PM at all local bodies and the Commission's offices in the provinces.
He also pointed out that the civil status offices affiliated with the Ministry of Interior will be open today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, to facilitate updating citizens' data for the purposes of the 2026 local elections.
Tahmallah urged citizens who have not yet registered to hurry and register, either electronically via the Commission's official website or through field registration centers, emphasizing that registration is a fundamental prerequisite for exercising their right to vote and run for office.
He noted that the Commission has faced cases in the past years where citizens wished to run for office but were unable due to their prior non-registration in the voter registry, resulting in their loss of the right to run.
He added that the indicators of registration and inquiries reflect an increasing interest from citizens in the local elections, highlighting early preparations for candidacy in several villages and towns, which is a positive and encouraging sign for participation in the electoral process.
