Trump announces Putin's acceptance to join the 'Peace Council'
SadaNews - President Donald Trump stated that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, has accepted his invitation to join the "Peace Council" he intends to establish, which is considered a competitor to the United Nations.
Trump told media in Davos: "He was invited, and he accepted the invitation."
Putin had announced moments earlier that he instructed his Ministry of Foreign Affairs to study this invitation before responding to it.
The Russian president said during a government meeting: "I have tasked the Russian Foreign Ministry with reviewing the documents we received and consulting with our strategic partners in this regard."
He added: "Only after that can we respond to the invitation sent to us," thanking Trump for the initiative.
Putin also indicated that Russia could provide the one billion dollars required as a joining fee from "the frozen Russian assets during the previous U.S. administration" due to the war in Ukraine.
He believed that the remaining frozen Russian funds in the United States could be used "to rebuild the areas affected by hostilities, after reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine."
The Russian president continued: "The essential thing is for the whole process to have a positive impact on the long-term resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the relevant United Nations resolutions."
He added: "It is essential to consider the irrevocable needs and desires of the Palestinians," affirming that Moscow will support "all efforts aimed at promoting international stability."
