Netanyahu Accepts Invitation to Join the "Peace Council"
SadaNews - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accused of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, announced on Wednesday his acceptance of an invitation to join the "Peace Council" chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office stated in a brief statement: "Netanyahu accepts Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council."
Trump has called on global leaders to join the "Peace Council," which he personally chairs and which, he claims, will contribute to resolving conflicts around the world – potentially leading to the establishment of a rival body to the United Nations, with a requirement of paying one billion dollars to obtain a permanent seat in this entity.
In contrast, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France "cannot meet" the request at this stage.
Trump responded by saying, "I will impose 200 percent tariffs on French wine and champagne. And they will join."
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Tuesday that he received an invitation but "cannot imagine" participating alongside Russia.
Trump confirmed on Monday that he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the "Council," while Moscow said it is seeking to "clarify all details" with Washington before making a decision.
The European Commission said its president Ursula von der Leyen received an invitation and is holding her response, according to a spokesperson in Brussels, while the German government confirmed the necessity of "coordinating" with its partners.
Among the countries that confirmed receiving invitations are: Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, Slovenia, and Poland, in addition to India and South Korea.
It is worth noting that the "Charter of the Peace Council" states that the Council will commence its work as soon as "three countries" sign the charter.
