Central Election Commission Issues Statement Regarding Local Elections in the Gaza Strip

SadaNews - In light of the decision issued by the Council of Ministers on 02/12/2025, which specifies Saturday, 25/4/2026 as the date for holding local council elections in all governorates of the homeland, and noting the committee's view on the difficulty of conducting local elections throughout the Gaza Strip, the committee, after studying the current conditions in the Gaza Strip, and in order to enhance the geographical and political unity between the two parts of the homeland, and to ensure citizens' right to participate in the democratic process whenever possible, has decided to hold local elections in the city of Deir al-Balah simultaneously with the elections in 420 local bodies in the West Bank. The committee called upon all relevant parties and national and community forces to provide the necessary support and assistance to ensure the success of the electoral process in the city of Deir al-Balah, affirming its full commitment to protecting the citizen's right to choose their representatives. The committee also expressed hope that it would be able to complete the democratic process in all local bodies in the Gaza Strip as soon as conditions improve and a suitable environment for holding elections becomes available.
