Weitkof Announces the Launch of the Second Phase of the Ceasefire in Gaza
SadaNews - The U.S. envoy for Middle East affairs, Steve Weitkof, announced on Wednesday evening the launch of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Weitkof stated in a post on the "X" platform that this phase will include the disarmament of Hamas, the formation of a technocratic committee to manage the sector, and a complete reconstruction of the region.
He said that the United States expects Hamas to fully comply with its obligations in this phase, including the return of the last Israeli hostage, emphasizing that failure to adhere to all the terms of the phase will have severe consequences.
He noted that in the first phase, significant humanitarian aid entered the sector, and all living hostages and the majority of the deceased were returned, except for the last, Ron Gully.
He praised the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in achieving this.
