Trump: American Control Over Greenland is Necessary for Air Defense System
SadaNews - On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American control over Greenland is "necessary" for the "Iron Dome" air and missile defense system he plans to establish.
Trump, who pledged to take control of the Arctic island from its ally Denmark, wrote on social media, "The United States needs Greenland for national security purposes. It is essential for the Iron Dome system we are building."
He added, "NATO becomes much stronger and more effective if Greenland is under U.S. control. Anything less than that is unacceptable."
This post from Trump comes ahead of a scheduled visit by senior Danish and Greenlandic diplomats to the White House to discuss Greenland with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Hours before the meeting, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen sought to ease American concerns about security in Greenland, stating that Denmark is enhancing its military presence there and is in talks with allies about "increasing NATO's presence in the Arctic."
For his part, Trump stated that NATO "must take the lead" in building a multi-layered missile defense system.
The American president wrote, "If we don’t do it, Russia or China will, and that’s not going to happen!"
