UN: The number of cases of acute malnutrition in Gaza has risen to 95,000
SadaNews - The United Nations announced that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip "remains dire" amid harsh weather conditions, noting that the number of cases of acute malnutrition has risen to about 95,000 cases.
This was stated by the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, during a press conference on Monday evening.
Dujarric pointed out that staff from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains serious, and noted that the harsh weather conditions are jeopardizing the progress made in meeting the significant shelter-related needs.
He added: "1.1 million people still urgently need assistance, as the ongoing heavy rains are damaging most existing shelters and destroying them."
Regarding malnutrition, Dujarric stated that UN humanitarian partners conducted screenings for more than 76,000 children last month, during which about 4,900 cases of acute malnutrition were identified.
He said: "This raises the total number of cases of acute malnutrition recorded in 2025 to about 95,000 cases."
