Occupation notifies the cutoff of electricity and water to UNRWA buildings in Jerusalem
SadaNews - The Governorate of Jerusalem has reported that the Israeli occupation authorities have initiated practical steps to implement a law to cut electricity and water to the buildings of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied Jerusalem. They have begun sending official notifications in preparation for the implementation, marking a new escalation targeting the agency's existence and its vital institutions within the city.
A brief statement issued by the governorate last night (Monday) indicated that notifications to cut electricity were delivered for the UNRWA buildings located inside the separation wall, by the Israeli electric company, with the implementation scheduled to begin after 15 days, based on a law approved by the Knesset on December 31 of last year.
The governorate added that the so-called "Gihon" company has also sent separate notifications to stop supplying water to the properties occupied by the agency in Jerusalem.
The initial assessment showed that these measures affected ten buildings belonging to UNRWA, including schools, clinics, training centers, and administrative offices, among them the agency's main office in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, which poses serious implications for the educational, health, and relief services provided to Palestinian refugees in the city.
The Governorate of Jerusalem pointed out that the Israeli Knesset had definitively approved this law at the end of last December during the second and third readings, with a majority of 59 votes against 7, in a move that constitutes a clear violation of the United Nations charter, international law, and international legitimacy resolutions, notably General Assembly Resolution 302, which established UNRWA to ensure the provision of services to Palestinian refugees until a fair solution to their cause is reached.
