Europe Distances Itself from Changing the Regime in Iran.. "It Is Not Our Policy"
SadaNews - The European Union announced its intention to impose "new sanctions" on Iran, emphasizing that changing the Iranian regime is not part of its policy.
The spokesperson for foreign affairs of the union, Anwar Al-Anouni, stated: "We are ready to propose new and more severe sanctions following the violent repression of protesters."
Changing the Regime
The European Commission also called on the Iranian authorities to listen to the aspirations of the people and to release the detainees who demanded their rights.
These statements came as a massive demonstration engulfed the capital, Tehran. Meanwhile, the head of the Iranian Shura Council, Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf, described the response to the wave of protests in the country as a "war against terrorists." Qalibaf stated that Iran is waging "a war on four fronts," which are economic warfare, psychological warfare, "military warfare" with the United States and Israel, and "today a war against terrorists."
Many Iranian politicians have accused "foreign entities" in recent times of fueling protests to spread chaos in the country and destabilize it, primarily the United States and Israel.
They also warned that any strike directed at Iran would be met with retaliation against American bases in the region and Israel as well.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly hinted at military options, indicating that he is considering them.
