Decline of the Most Important Israeli Research Center Outside the Top 100 Global Centers
SadaNews Translation - The Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel has fallen out of the list of the top 100 academic institutions in the world.
According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, as translated by SadaNews, the center is now ranked 122nd globally, for the first time in its history, according to the prestigious Nature Index scientific ranking.
The Israeli research center was previously ranked 47th globally in the last update.
The site noted that this drop is part of the repercussions following the events of October 7, 2023, and the subsequent extensive military escalation, particularly the Iranian war, and the growing academic boycott of Israel in light of the war in Gaza.
It also pointed out that one of the direct reasons is due to it being targeted by an Iranian missile last June, which caused damage to it.
Additionally, many Israeli universities and research centers like the Hebrew University and the Technion Institute in Haifa have also dropped in the new scientific ranking.
