White House: Trump Signs Declaration to Withdraw from 66 International Organizations

SadaNews - President Donald Trump signed a declaration on Wednesday announcing the withdrawal of the United States from 35 non-UN organizations and 31 affiliated entities, stating that they "act contrary to U.S. national interests."

The statement issued by the White House did not mention the names of these organizations but stated that they promote "radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological programs that contradict U.S. sovereignty and economic strength."

It added that this decision came as a result of a comprehensive review of all international governmental organizations, agreements, and treaties of which the United States is a member or party.

The White House stated: "These withdrawals will end the funding of American taxpayers and the U.S. participation in entities that advance agendas at the expense of American priorities, or deal with important issues inefficiently or ineffectively, making it better to allocate American taxpayers' money in other ways to support relevant missions."

Since the beginning of his second term a year ago, Trump has sought to reduce U.S. funding for the United Nations, halted U.S. participation in the UN Human Rights Council, and extended the suspension of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The United States also withdrew from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and President Trump announced plans to withdraw from the World Health Organization and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
