Wide Ukrainian Drone Attack on Moscow and Russian Cities

SadaNews - Ukraine launched a wide-ranging drone attack yesterday evening, targeting the Russian capital, Moscow, and other cities in western Russia and the Crimean Peninsula, resulting in the injury of one civilian near Moscow, and damage to the infrastructure of the Tuapse port on the Black Sea and a gas pipeline in a residential area, with no injuries reported there.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that air defense units shot down 27 Ukrainian drones within three hours starting from 8 PM local time, including three over the Moscow area.

For his part, Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov stated that 21 drones were shot down during the day in the region, confirming the injury of one civilian.

These attacks come a day after Moscow accused Kyiv of attempting to target the residence of President Vladimir Putin, a claim that Ukraine denied and considered baseless, aiming to obstruct efforts to end the ongoing war for nearly four years.

In the same context, Russian media reported that authorities announced a power outage in a town near Moscow due to a technical malfunction at a regional power facility, affecting about 100,000 people, with no indications linking the outage to the Ukrainian attacks.

In contrast, Ukrainian authorities reported that four people, including three children, were injured due to Russian strikes targeting the city of Odesa last night.

Local officials explained that Russian drones hit residential and logistical infrastructure, causing damage to buildings and outbreaks of fires, indicating that two children aged 8 and 14, and a 7-month-old baby, as well as a 42-year-old man whose condition was described as critical, were among the injured.

Politically, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv will discuss with Washington the possibility of having American forces in Ukraine as part of security guarantees, considering that this would enhance the country's security. He added that meetings of advisors will be held on January 7 for final touches, preparing for a subsequent meeting between European and American leaders.
