End of Algeria's Membership in the Security Council and Bahrain Taking Over the Arab Seat
SadaNews - Today, Wednesday, Algeria's non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council ends, to be succeeded by the Kingdom of Bahrain starting tomorrow, Thursday, for a duration of two years.
With the start of the new year, the Security Council includes five permanent members: the United Kingdom, China, the United States, France, and the Russian Federation, in addition to ten non-permanent members elected by the United Nations General Assembly, which are: Bahrain, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Latvia, and Colombia, alongside Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia.
Alongside Algeria, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia are also leaving the council today.
According to established custom, Arab countries rotate to fill the non-permanent seat in the Security Council between the African and Asian groups.
