The Intensification of the Atmospheric Depression Worsens the Suffering of Displaced Persons in Gaza (Video)

SadaNews - The prevailing weather conditions and the intensification of the atmospheric depression have exacerbated the suffering of the displaced persons in Gaza, as the winds have destroyed their tents, and the depression has put them at risk of drowning and illness, amid a lack of resources and the absence of means to protect them from the cold and rain.

Waters have flooded tents housing displaced persons in low-lying areas, while strong winds have uprooted other tents, forcing families, including children, to seek shelter in the open amidst cold weather.

The depressions have affected more than a quarter of a million displaced persons, out of about 1.5 million living in tents and makeshift shelters that do not provide even the minimum protection.

The displaced persons are facing harsh conditions amidst bitter cold and strong winds, with thousands living in tents made of nylon and thin fabric, lacking the basic elements of protection from rain and storms, as most of them reside on roads, playgrounds, public squares, and schools, without any means to protect them from the cold and storms.

Strong winds and heavy rains have caused several tents of the displaced persons to sink and others to be swept away in various areas of Gaza, particularly in Khan Younis, due to an atmospheric depression hitting the region, worsening the suffering of tens of thousands of Palestinian families.

A number of residential buildings, previously damaged by Israeli bombardment during the months of genocide, have also collapsed due to the rains and winds.

The lack of fuel exacerbates the crisis, as families find themselves unable to secure any means of heating amidst falling nighttime temperatures, negatively affecting many children, with several deaths reported among them.

Most citizens often resort to living in cracked buildings on the verge of collapse due to the lack of options, after the occupation army has destroyed most buildings and prevented the entry of mobile homes and construction materials for reconstruction.

Since the onset of the atmospheric depressions affecting Gaza this December, 17 citizens, including 4 children, have been reported dead, while nearly 90% of the displaced persons' shelters destroyed by Israel have been submerged.
