Deaths and Injuries in Syrian Coast Events
SadaNews - Syrian official media reported that there were casualties and dozens of injuries in an attack carried out by remnants of Bashar al-Assad's regime on demonstrations by the Alawite community in Latakia, Tartous, Jableh, and Hama countryside.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that a police officer was killed and others were injured, while a reporter for the "Syria Now" platform reported the deaths of 3 people and injuries to about 55 others due to violence accompanying the protests in Latakia.
A correspondent for Al Jazeera confirmed that gunfire occurred against the Syrian internal security forces at Al-Azhari roundabout in the city of Latakia, and two internal security personnel were injured in Tartous after unknown individuals threw a hand grenade at a funeral section in Banyas.
The head of internal security in Latakia Governorate, Brigadier General Abdul Aziz Al-Ahmad, stated: "We observed the presence of masked and armed elements affiliated with what is called 'Coastal Shield Battalions' and 'Al-Jawad Battalions' during the protests at Al-Azhari roundabout in Latakia and at the National Hospital roundabout in Jableh."
He clarified that today's attack occurred during the protests called for by the individual known as Ghazal Ghazal in the cities of Latakia and Jableh, "which led to injuries among some of our personnel, and damage to vehicles belonging to special missions and police. "
