Heavy rains flood the tents of displaced people in areas of the Gaza Strip (Video)
SadaNews - A large number of tents belonging to displaced people in different areas of the Gaza Strip were flooded due to heavy rainfall.
The weather front also hit the tents of displaced people in the Mawsim area of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
Videos have been released showing the effects of the weather front striking Gaza and the region.
The storm and severe weather front that hit the Gaza Strip on December 12 resulted in the deaths of 11 Palestinians, including children, and injured others, due to consecutive house collapses, fallen walls, and widespread flooding of tents in several areas of the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations stated in one of its reports in November that more than two million Palestinians "are now crowded into less than half the area of the Gaza Strip, while most displaced people lack adequate shelter materials to protect them from the rain and winds," as reported by the Palestinian news agency.
On December 12, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that heavy rains and the dampness of the tents exacerbate the deteriorating health and living conditions in the crowded sector, confirming that the cold weather, poor sanitation, and lack of cleanliness raise the risk of disease outbreaks, urging for the urgent facilitation of humanitarian aid access.
