Arab and Islamic Countries Condemn Israeli Recognition of Somaliland

SadaNews - Foreign ministers from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Union of the Comoros, the Republic of Djibouti, the Republic of Gambia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, the Republic of Maldives, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Yemen, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.

The ministers affirmed in a joint statement their absolute rejection of Israel's announcement on December 26, 2025, regarding its recognition of the region of "Somaliland" located in the Federal Republic of Somalia, in light of the serious repercussions of this unprecedented action on peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and its severe impacts on international peace and security, which also reflects Israel's clear and total disregard for international law.

They also condemned in the strongest terms this recognition, which represents a blatant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations that emphasizes the preservation of the sovereignty of states and the unity and territorial integrity of their lands.

They stressed their full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as the rejection of any actions that would undermine Somalia's unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty over its entire territory.

The ministers stated that the recognition of the independence of parts of the territories of states presents a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security and to the established principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

They affirmed their strong rejection of any connection between this action and any schemes to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, which are categorically and absolutely rejected both in form and substance.
