The President Receives a Phone Call from the President of Cyprus
SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call this evening, Sunday, from the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during which they discussed the latest political developments and the current situation in Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and ways to achieve peace in accordance with international law.
The President expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the phone call from President Christodoulides, praising the strong friendship relations that bind the two countries and their brotherly peoples, and the political positions of Cyprus supporting the legitimate Palestinian rights to freedom and independence, as well as Cyprus's commitment to the two-state solution according to international law, emphasizing the important role that Cyprus will play during its presidency of the European Union early next year.
The President also expressed the appreciation of the Palestinian people and leadership for the significant humanitarian support provided by Cyprus to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The President confirmed the commitment of the State of Palestine to the plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, and the importance of starting the implementation of the second phase of the plan as approved by Hamas and Israel, which includes Hamas handing over its weapons and relinquishing control in the Gaza Strip, the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the establishment of a ceasefire, the introduction of humanitarian aid and shelter materials, and moving towards reconstruction.
The President emphasized the necessity of stopping Israeli violations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, particularly the halt of settlement expansion and settler terrorism, as well as the release of withheld Palestinian funds.
He reiterated the readiness of the State of Palestine to assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip immediately, as well as the readiness to work with President Trump and mediators and partners to implement the two-state solution in accordance with international law, allowing the Palestinian people to achieve their freedom and independence, so that the State of Palestine can live alongside the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighborliness.
