"Doctors Without Borders": Children in Gaza are Dying from the Cold
SadaNews - Doctors Without Borders warned that children in the Gaza Strip are dying from the cold, and called on Israel to allow for the increased entry of humanitarian aid to enable Palestinians to withstand adverse weather conditions.
The organization stated in a statement that a 29-day-old infant died at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, just two hours after arriving at the children's ward supported by Doctors Without Borders.
It added: "Despite all attempts to treat him, it was not possible to save the child's life, as he succumbed to a severe drop in body temperature."
Doctors Without Borders warned that "the harsh winter weather, coupled with already deteriorating living conditions, exacerbates health risks."
It noted that its teams continue to record high rates of respiratory infections, and these cases are expected to increase throughout the winter, posing a serious risk to children under the age of five.
Regarding the current weather patterns, the organization said: "While Gaza is experiencing heavy rainfall and severe storms, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians suffering in makeshift and dilapidated tents are being flooded with water."
It also urged the "Israeli authorities to immediately allow for the broad and increased entry of aid into Gaza."
