Injuries in Clashes Between Haredim and Israeli Police in Jerusalem (Video)

SadaNews - Violent clashes erupted today, Thursday, between Israeli police forces and groups of Haredim in occupied Jerusalem, resulting in the injury of 10 police officers and the arrest of four suspects, along with damage to police vehicles.

The clashes took place around Bar Ilan Street and nearby neighborhoods, where a police patrol sustained significant damage, appearing in video clips surrounded by crowds of protesters, while the police faced difficulties in evacuating it from the area.

The police reported that hundreds of protesters participated in the clashes, throwing stones, waste, and various items towards the forces deployed in the area.

They added that some of their injured members were transferred for medical treatment, without detailing the nature of their injuries.

In a statement, the police said that the clashes erupted after an inspector from the Jerusalem municipality issued a violation in the area.

They claimed that the violation led to a "breach of order" and an attack on police forces, resulting in injuries to some of their officers and damages to several patrols.

In a previous statement, the police claimed that three of their officers were lightly injured during the stone-throwing and item-throwing incident towards them.

They confirmed that they called in a large number of police and border guard reinforcements and used means to disperse the demonstrators, including sound bombs, as documented in recordings published on social media.

In contrast, Haredi protesters stated that they gathered in the area following reports of the arrest of a Haredi young man suspected of evading military service.

Israeli reports indicated that the clashes broke out after a rumor spread about the arrest of three Haredi young men suspected of evading conscription.

These reports noted that the protests quickly escalated into widespread clashes with the police.

In a subsequent update, the police announced that the toll from the clashes reached 10 officers injured, adding that forces are still deployed in the area "to restore order".

In related news, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir condemned the protests, stating that "attacking the police by lawbreakers is a red line".

For his part, Police Inspector General Dani Levy stated that he "views with utmost seriousness the assault on police officers and inspectors," threatening to "hold accountable" those involved.

In contrast, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid criticized the government's behavior, saying that what happened is a "unprecedented failure of the government and a disintegration of state institutions".

Lapid added: "It is unreasonable for Haredi evaders to prevent arrest just because they use violence".

These clashes occur amid rising tensions within Israeli society regarding the conscription of Haredim.
