Hamas Confirms Rejection of Guardianship over Gaza and Warns Against Plans to Restructure the Sector
SadaNews: Hamas renewed its full commitment to all terms of the ceasefire agreement, pointing out that the occupation continues to violate the agreement daily by what it described as concocting flimsy excuses to evade its obligations. The movement confirmed in its statement that these violations call for serious intervention from the mediators and the U.S. administration to pressure the occupying government and compel it to implement what has been agreed upon, in addition to condemning the ongoing violations that hinder the path to calm.
The movement stressed its demand that the U.S. administration fulfill its announced commitments toward the ceasefire agreement and pressure the occupation to stop its assaults and open the crossings, particularly the Rafah crossing in both directions, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid and alleviating the suffering of the residents of the sector. It explained that the continued closure of the crossings and restrictions on the entry of relief worsen the humanitarian situation and undermine any efforts to achieve stability.
In a related context, Hamas affirmed its categorical rejection of any form of guardianship or mandate over the Gaza Strip or any part of the Palestinian territories, warning against attempts to restructure the sector or impose arrangements that contradict the will of the Palestinian people. It emphasized that the Palestinian people alone have the right to choose their rulers and are capable of managing their affairs and defending their land and legitimate rights, including establishing their independent state with its capital in Jerusalem.
The movement called on Arab and Islamic nations, leaders, governments, and peoples, as well as organizations, to take immediate action to pressure the occupation to stop its aggression, open the crossings, and allow aid in, in addition to implementing relief, shelter, and reconstruction plans, and providing basic living necessities for more than two million Palestinians living in difficult humanitarian conditions. It affirmed that this action has become an urgent necessity in light of the continued humanitarian crisis and the worsening of its effects.
Hamas concluded its statement by affirming that the crimes committed by the occupation during the two years of war and starvation in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem are systematic crimes that do not lapse over time, calling on the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to continue pursuing the leaders of the occupation and prevent them from escaping punishment, considering that legal accountability is an essential part of achieving justice and redressing the victims.
