Jordan Condemns Approval of 19 Settlements by the Occupation in the West Bank

SadaNews - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the Israeli government's approval of the establishment and legalization of 19 illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank; an egregious violation of international law, international humanitarian law, undermining efforts for a two-state solution, and a clear violation of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, to end the occupation, and to establish their independent sovereign state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Fouad Mijalli, affirmed the Kingdom's condemnation and absolute rejection of the extremist Israeli government's continuation of its settlement projects and plans in the occupied West Bank, which constitute an entrenchment of occupation and settlement expansion, a clear undermining of the international will for a two-state solution, and a violation of international law and international legitimacy, especially United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition and character of the Palestinian land occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, in addition to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which confirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land and the nullity of settlement construction and annexation procedures of the occupied West Bank lands.

Mijalli called on the international community to bear its legal and moral responsibilities, to compel Israel to halt its dangerous escalation and illegal unilateral actions in the occupied West Bank, and to meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on their national soil, as the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.
