Sudanese Foreign Ministry: 79 Killed in Rapid Support Forces Attack in South Kordofan
SadaNews - The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned late Friday the attack by Rapid Support Forces in the Kologo area of South Kordofan.
The foreign ministry reported in a statement that 79 people from the local population, including children, were killed and 38 were injured as a result of the attack.
It is worth noting that clashes between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces have intensified in the Kordofan region of southern Sudan for about a week, leading to an increase in the number of displaced persons.
In West Kordofan, approximately 47,000 people were displaced from the cities of Al-Khoy and Al-Nuhud in May alone, according to UN estimates. In North Kordofan, more than 36,000 civilians fled as fighting escalated.
Since the war began in Sudan in April 2023, it has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, displaced 12 million people, and plunged the country into the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.
