Egypt Hosts Meeting of Mediators in Efforts to Secure Ceasefire in Gaza
SadaNews - Delegations from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, the mediating countries along with the United States for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, met today (Tuesday) in Cairo to discuss the second phase of the agreement, according to Egyptian official media.
The "Cairo News" channel reported that the meeting was attended by Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalın, and discussed addressing any violations and containing them to ensure the stabilization of the ceasefire between Israel and "Hamas".
A Turkish source who attended the meeting confirmed that the mediators also discussed intensifying joint efforts, in cooperation with the United States, to successfully implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, and there was consensus among the parties to continue enhancing coordination and cooperation with the "Civil-Military Coordination Center," which is a cessation monitoring center established by the United States and its allies in southern Israel.
The source mentioned that the three officials also discussed addressing the Israeli violations of the agreement, according to reports from the "Agence France-Presse".
Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States are playing the roles of mediators and guarantors for the Gaza agreement, which went into effect on October 10 after two years of war.
The Cairo meeting was held two days after a high-level Hamas delegation met with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad to discuss the second phase of the truce.
This phase includes the disarmament of "Hamas" and the establishment of a transitional authority, as well as the deployment of an international stabilization force made up of foreign troops in the Gaza Strip.
The "Cairo News" channel pointed out that Tuesday's meeting addressed "overcoming any obstacles and containing violations to ensure the stabilization of the ceasefire".
Israel and "Hamas" have repeatedly exchanged accusations of violating the truce.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of more than 300 Palestinians since the ceasefire went into effect.
